Mark Hall's first half strike was enough to secure Slough Town victory in Tuesday's Berks & Bucks Senior Cup last 16 replay. In a reverse of the first game at York Road, Slough dominated the first half then held on as United pressed hard for an equaliser in the second period.

It was Maidenhead's first defeat in the competition for over three years. Chuk Agudosi went close for United on six minutes. But it was Slough who controlled the first half and they took the lead when Marcus Richardson's back-heel from a Dave Rainford corner gave Hall the chance to slam the ball home from close range on 26 minutes.

Maidenhead did cause some problems for Slough in the first period, with Tim Cook's long throws one of their best weapons, but the home side squandered chances to build a bigger lead before the interval.

A superb passing move by Slough, just before halftime, set up a series of Rebels corners, but Mark Hawthorne's eventual shot was blocked.

United hit back after the break with an improved display, but found the Rebels defence in resilient mood. Chris Ferdinand saw his shot cleared off the line and Danny Honey pulled off a good save to deny Peter Terry. And, as the game moved into its closing stages, United — buoyed by the incessant chanting by the fans behind the Rebels goal — wasted two glorious opportunities to grab an equaliser.

First, ex-Slough player Nas Bashir squandered a simple chance in front of goal. Then, with five minutes remaining, defensive hesitancy let in substitute Lee Channell for an even better chance, but he could only poke a weak shot towards goal which Honey gathered easily.

Maidenhead pushed men forward in an attempt to earn extra-time, but it was to no avail. They might have had a lifeline if referee Mr Randall had spotted Mark Pye's hand connect with Ferdinand's head following a late corner, but Slough held out to secure a last eight spot.
