Rebels manager Graham Roberts hopes to bounce back from Saturday's nightmare against Heybridge Swifts with victory at Chesham United. But Roberts says he is more interested in getting it right for Slough Town against his former club than settling any personal scores.

"It's just another game for me — I've got no qualms with Chesham," he said. "I was given an ultimatum — resign or get the sack — so I resigned. I came to Slough because it's an ambitious club and I'm happy I did. We know what we've got to do to get out of the situation we're in. We've got some hard games coming up - we're playing against Rushden and Diamonds in the FA Trophy but the players are up for it and we'll give them a hard game."

Despite the club's lowly league position, Roberts says relegation is simply not an option this season. "We're in a relegation struggle but we won't be in Division 1 next season. I can promise that that's not going to happen."

Roberts says he is looking to add Conference standard players to the squad to boost the club's flagging season. Lee Archer signed on Monday for a small fee from Rushden and Diamonds, who Slough entertain in the third round of the FA Trophy a week on Saturday.
Roberts was speaking to three other Conference players this week and says that if they sign there are not likely to be other signings this season — but there will be in the future.

He said: "I shouldn't think there will be any more for the season if they sign. There is a bit of money available but I'm having to do a bit of ducking and diving."

Whoever Roberts signs, they will need to start performing quickly after a woeful display by the side against Heybridge saw the
Rebels complete their opening game of the New Year in 18th place and just three points off the bottom. Mark Fiore hit a post after 52 minutes, before the only goal of the game arrived two minutes later.

Steve Browne handled 25 yards out and Colin Wall's deflected free-kick beat Paul Wilkerson at the near post. Heybridge looked the more likely of the two sides to add to the scoring in the closing stages. They should have added a second goal in the 86th minute, with Colin Heasman failing to convert from close range.
