A disappointing performance by Slough enabled Morecambe to snatch the spoils from a game that brought into question the attitude of the Rebels' players.

Frustrated manager Brian McDermot, reflecting on one of the worst performances of the season, said: "The players at Slough this season are the best the club has had, but they are not performing. Today, the players let me and the supporters down."

A first half of very few chances saw Morecambe employing route one using the strong wind. The Slough defence, Hercules, in particular, dealt with this style or play comfortably.

In the 41st minute Slough had their best moment of the half when after some neat play, West ran strongly into the box only to be brought down by Knowles, who was booked as a result of his challenge. Unfortunately Mcllhargey saved Bolt's spot kick.

The second half became more disjointed and in an attempt to get some action on Slough's left side, Fiore replaced Bolt but this still failed to produce the required sparkle.

The first chance in the half fell to Stapleton in the 58th minute, who after being fed the ball by West, gave Slough the lead with a 25-yard drive.

But Slough, conceding the middle-third of the pitch came under increased pressure and Morecambe capitalised on this in the 75th minute when a low drive by Monk on the left of the Slough defence was turned into the net by McCluskie to draw level.

Owusu's introduction brought fresh hope to the attack but an early cross found only an empty penalty area.

McDermott commented: "A superb game against Woking saw the players showing passion and commitment, but today it wasn't there."
