The early play was very scrappy with the ball in the air too much and a wet bumpy pitch to play on caused problems for both sides. In the 21st minute Steve Whitby cleared a dangerous situation and conceded the first corner of the match.

Sloughs first shot at goal came on the half-hour as Paul McKinnon shot high over the bar from a difficult angle. Just before the break, Slough were awarded a penalty for handball, but Darren Anderson's spot-kick was saved by the legs of Vic's 'keeper Berryman. So we turned around goal-less.

After the break, Northwich showed more imagination when coming forward and Trevor Bunting did well to save Butler's shot. At the other end Mark Foran, who was in control of the centre of our defence, came forward and headed just wide from a corner.

Midway through the second forty-five minutes, George Friel made his Rebels debut, coming on for Paul McKinnon. With 20 minutes remaining we conceded a free-kick to the new back-pass law and Bunting again performed miracles to save at the far post from Butler.

But it all came right at the end! With a couple of minutes remaining Alan Pluckrose looked to have broken the deadlock, when his diagonal drive flash across the Vic's goalmouth, but just past the far upright. However the last minute saw us score the only goal of the match. Andy Sayer raced clear on the right flank, he then whips over a low cross to Alan Pluckrose who, coming in from the left shoots past Berryman into the roof of the net and it's nine points out of nine!
