After the excitement of the cup tie at Hayes, Slough returned to Isthmian League football to demonstrate just why they will struggle to avoid relegation this season.

The plaudits that accompanied their return to the dressing room on Saturday were a million miles away on Tuesday evening. Manager Joe Arpino has clearly stated that he now has the strongest squad since he took over but one win in the last 19 league games must ring warning bells at a club where top-class non-league football is a necessity.

Roger Mackay, Barry Friend and Peter Feely all played well, but Paul Lee is clearly not yet match fit, and the midfield generally lacked stability.

Dagenham strolled through the first half, missing half a dozen sitters and scoring in the 23rd minute through George Duck. Mick Kiely replaced Tony Hobbs after the goal.

Slough came more into the game in the second half, and indeed Huttley was the busier keeper. They appeared to have equalised in the 67th minute when Feely headed Turl's cross past Huttley, but the referee was the only person in the ground to spot an infringement.

A good dribble and shot from Russell which just cleared the bar was Town's final effort.
