Injury-hit and bottom of the table, Slough Town threw away more chances than they could afford in their 2-2 draw with Harrow at Wexham on Saturday.

Manager Joe Arpino said he was ‘embarrassed’ by the lack of sharpness in front of goal. "Harrow should never have been in this game. We could have won by seven."

After a perky start by Slough, in which Barry Friend and Dave Russell both shot wide when clear, Harrow went ahead in the 22nd minute. Centre-back Derek Brown, slackly marked by Peter Feely, scored with a header from a Cliff Rapley free kick.

Friend and Joe Maloney both missed before Slough drew level in the 35th minute. Alan Gane scored from the penalty spot after Russell had been brought down just inside the box by Ray Thomas.

There was more agony for Slough in the second half as chances went begging again. Feely shot wide from one yard out from a Russell cross before Harrow took the initiative again with a beautiful goal in the 69th minute.

Harrow substitute Gary Gilbert volleyed a 20-yard shot into the top-left hand corner of the goal and Slough looked down and out.

From the restart Feely redeemed himself with an equaliser from a Friend cross after a goal-mouth scramble.

After that it was almost too much to bear as chance after chance for Slough went begging. In injury time Friend and Maloney both missed the goal when it would have been just as easy to score.
