The shadow of injury which has hung over the Wexham Park ground this season stretched as far as Surrey this week when Slough held an overconfident Tooting to a draw in Tuesday's Isthmian League game.

Mick Kiely took some bad knocks in the first-half and did not re-appear for the second 45 minutes, substitute Ian Cooke sharing half the match. And then, just as Slough looked likely to collect a second goal, Barry Friend suffered a pulled muscle.

Nevertheless, Slough manager Joe Arpino was pleased. He said: "The lads did very well, especially toward the end."

Slough got off to a good start when Peter Feely put them ahead in the 10th minute, following up well after Alan Gane's shot had rebounded from the bar.

The effect on Tooting was electric. They stormed back and equalised with a shot from Phil Basey which was deflected past keeper Teale by Beyer - the second fluke goal to be conceded by Slough in successive matches.

Slough showed more determination in the second half, with Friend, Mackay and Gane figuring in some good moves.

Friend almost scored with a long range free-kick, and keeper Sproul had to struggle to get his fingers round the flying ball. But Tooting went equally close with a header from Crockett.
