TWO goals from Kieran Somers - the second with the accidental aid of the referee - enabled Slough Town to send Ilford plunging towards relegation from the Isthmian League Division One on Tuesday.

Slough, playing the third of four games in eight days, were without the injured Malley and Gane but still chose to call up Paul Walker in preference to Gordon Bartlett. Walker, who has yet to decide if he will sign apprentice professional forms for Brentford, made a quiet Isthmian League debut.

Somers headed Slough in front from Lee's corner in the 29th minute but Ilford took advantage of a slip by Reardon in the 74th minute when Barton slotted the ball home just before Underwood could tackle him.

With seven minutes remaining Slough regained the lead than to a strange stroke of luck. As Davies shot, referee J. Martin unwittingly caused 'keeper Corder to be unsighted and he could not hold the ball which Brown deflected for Somers to tap in his 19th goal of the season.

Corder had earlier made a brilliant save from Brown, who saw another effort rebound off the bar. In the 66th minute Corder and Brown were involved in a flare up in which punches were thrown, but they escaped with a lecture from the referee.
