Slough and Uxbridge both opened their season on Saturday with a League match at the Dolphin Ground. Rain fell during the greater part of the time and consequently the attendance was not so large as usual for the first game.

Slough went off with rare dash. Once Luke received a good pass from Whiteman and ran right through. He hesitated, however, before shooting, and was robbed by Ayres. Shortly after the leather was sent into the net by one of the right wing players, but Mines was given offside.

Commins transferred play by a capital run until he was dispossessed by Gooderson. Stanley also had a shot at goal though the ball went outside the post. A speedy run by the Slough left wing brought play to the opposite end again, and Mines banged in a shot which Hartwell caught and threw away.

Commins was responsible for some clever work on the Uxbridge right, and from one of his centres Bushell put in a good shot which Werrell cleared. A minute later he successfully dealt with another shot and the Slough forwards raced down the field.

Uxbridge had got well together by this time, and Werrell had to save a stinging shot from Commins. Once or twice the Slough forwards broke away but were badly supported by the halves. For some time Slough had to set on the defensive and Stanley came near to scoring.

Later on the same player was left unguarded in close proximity to goal and he showed his appreciation by sending the leather into the net before Werrell had time to realise what was up. Thus Uxbridge took the lead after twenty five minutes play.

From this point the visitors were almost always in the ascendency, and Wilmot stopped a splendid shot from Commins. Just after Luke made a fine run for the homesters, and steering clear of the halves and backs got well towards goal. Hartwell however, inched out and caused him to shoot sideways, the goalkeeper just touching the ball in its onward flight, and the consequent corner brought no result.

Several times the Slough front rank got within firing range but their shooting was ineffective. Mines was very energetic on the left, and following a run of his Paice shot across. Fountain met and returned to Skinner, but that player sent the leather high over the bar.

Commins initiated an attack on the home citadel and Stanley called on Werrell to save from the outride right's pass. Bushell met Werrell's clearance and returned a straight one, but the custodian safely negotiated the shot. At half time Uxbridge led by a goal to nil.

On the restart, Slough again went off at great rate and Paice forced a corner. From this Wyatt got away only to be checkmated by Wilmot.

For a time the game steadied down. During a sharp attack, Skinner nearly equalised with a long shot Commins made a flying visit to the Slough goal and Smith conceded a corner. An exciting struggle took place in front of the Uxbridge goal when Luke and Paice broke away. The former put in a shot which brought out Hartwell.

He fell with the ball under him, and the Slough forwards immediately swarmed round.
The goalkeeper, however, succeeded in getting the leather round the post at the expense of a fruitless corner.

Following this incident, Uxbridge became the aggressors and gained two corners, which were both put to the rear. Midway in the second half Bushall got a run through with only the goalkeeper to beat. Werrell ran straight out, but he was too late to prevent Bushall shooting, and the ball rolled into an open goal.

After this reverse Slough put more spirit into the game, but they subsided all to quickly. Two capital shots came from the left wing, but they were dealt with by Hartwell. Once Paice should have scored from a pass by Luke, but he put over the bar instead.

Ten minutes from the finish Uxbridge scored a third goal. A swift shot was sent in from the right wing, which Werrell caught, but before he could clear, Bench rushed up and bundled the ball into the goal.

Two minutes later, Uxbridge broke away again, and from a well judged pass Stanley added a fourth goal.
