A good, clean game saw us lead at the interval by the only goal, although Fussell also netted but was judged to be offside.

The second half was full of excitement, but we went to 2-0 before Clapton eventually scored. The feature of the game was the tussle between Les Brown and Jacky Jennings. This time Brown had the better of the argument against the most dangerous centre in the League.

Les was well backed up by Elderfield and Bricknell, who never placed a foot wrong throughout. Peter, behind this solid defence, had a fairly quiet afternoon, but managed to effect some clearances that rather astounded the Clapton supporters.

Roy and Sid, at wing half, played their accustomed tireless games, opening many good movements and tackling with relentless determination. Fisher and Fox, on the extreme wings, were very good indeed, were always dangerous. The inside trio, Tommy, Gil, and Harry, also gave very fine accounts of themselves and fitted nicely into the scheme of play. The team as a whole gave satisfaction and, incidentally, Fisher scored the goals.
