Good afternoon and welcome to Arbour Park for today’s Southern League Premier fixture against Merthyr Town, we would like to welcome them here and wish them a safe journey home. Gavin Williams is someone we get on really well with, and after putting an excellent side together over the last couple of seasons, they have been hit with some financial issues, and it is credit to him and his management team that they have still been really competitive in all but one fixture away at Chesham just after the financial issues came to light.

Obviously this is our first programme notes since the tragic passing of “Super Kev”, it goes without saying that it is an incredibly sad time at the club, and we are all still really numb that we won’t see his smiling face again. I think you only needed to read social media in the last week to see the tributes pouring in for Kev, to understand how highly he was regarded. He was without doubt one of the nicest guys you could come across, and I would be shocked if there was anyone on this planet who had a bad word to say against him, which is really saying something in this day and age.

To spend 32 years at Slough shows his supreme loyalty and dedication, and with all these wonderful traits that I have described, he was also excellent at his job which was the most important thing to him, he would go over and above what was needed, and oozed class. More often than not he was organising treatment sessions with current players, ex-players and even wives/girlfriends of players, and fans, this would often mean working outside the usual Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays that most non-league people adhere to.

Having spent the last 5 years with Kev he was not only a colleague he was also a very good friend, and whilst we are all devastated, he will never leave our thoughts and as a management team whilst we are at the club we will always do something to keep him in our thoughts at every game. He would have loved nothing more than to see us get promoted this year, after the fantastic season we have had to date, and as a group we are going to do everything we can to achieve this and have it dedicated to Kev.

But knowing Kev he would say the show must go on, and nothing can get in the way of the football, and whilst that is tough to think about at this stage, he is probably right. So we will look to honour him, remember him, and make him and his family proud.

There is only one Kevin McGoldrick, and he will forever be in our hearts.
