Anyway get behind the lads this season as much as you can, always look to try and encourage new people to come to the games, as I believe we are a good team to watch and will hopefully come the end of the season have something to be playing for.

Good afternoon and welcome back to Arbour Park for the first league game of the season against Kettering Town. We would like to welcome Marcus, his team and everyone connected with the club to our newly completed stadium.

A new league season is exciting times for everyone, as we have now got past the friendlies which as a manager and a player can get a little boring, and we all enter with the same ambitions of doing well in the league and having a good cup run.

I think that the league will be more competitive than ever this season, with a large number of sides who will fancy their chances of promotion, obviously today’s opponent will be expecting a much better season than last year, and I would expect them to be up there in the mix to win it with the players that they have added to an already excellent squad.

We enter this game having had an excellent pre-season, where we have remained unbeaten, and have in fact won our last 6 games on the bounce, however we are under no illusions how tough our start is this season, and that whilst winning in pre-season is nice, it counts for nothing when we start today.

Our start last year was 4 points from our first 3 games, so if we could improve on that then we would obviously be delighted, however nothing is won or lost in the first month of the season, you tend to know a lot more come October/November when the league has settled down, and you can tend to see who will be the front runners.

In terms of squad news we are in pretty good position, with at the time of writing the notes not having any injury concerns other than the longer term injury of Harrison Gilkes, so we therefore have a squad of 18 available for the game which means 2 will miss out, who could quite easily start.

This will be the toughest part for myself and Jon this season, as there will be times that players will expect to play but won’t be, however we will need to get them to buy into the squad situation this season, and realise that it will be very unlikely that we will see a situation like last year when Sean Fraser started every game for us.

Anyway get behind the lads this season as much as you can, always look to try and encourage new people to come to the games, as I believe we are a good team to watch and will hopefully come the end of the season have something to be playing for.

Enjoy the season
