Slough Town Football Club was delighted to be able to give St Joseph's Catholic High School a cheque for £1,200 on Tuesday evening, in support of the Mission2Thailand Trust.
The money was raised by the club through the generous donations of Rebels supporters in return for permits which enable parking at the school on home matchdays.
The school raises money to go and visit several different projects in Pattaya, Thailand each year. This is an area in Thailand notorious for the sex tourism industry and as such is an area with high numbers of street children, orphans and children living with HIV and AIDS. They visit projects supported by the Thai Children's Trust, a UK-based Catholic organisation that helps to provide for the most needy children. The aim in these different projects is to ensure children have a meal each day, somewhere to sleep at night that is safe and where possible, provide access to education for them. Education is a big focus for the charity, as it is this that will give the children the opportunity to change their life chances.
Each year, the school works towards fundraising as much money as possible through varying activities, such as discos, quiz nights, raffles and car washes, this allows for 12 Sixth Form students to go over for two weeks in February to visit the projects, take equipment out, put on activities for the children and donate money to help run the buildings.
The club’s donation will go directly towards helping an orphanage cover their costs for a month.
Ciran Stapleton, headteacher at the school, added: “I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you and all the supporters of Slough Town Football Club for the fantastic sum raised of £1,200 to the Mission2Thailand Trust to support the Students’ work with the Orphanage. The students, Rhian Morgans (Head of Sixth Form) and I felt like royalty last night and thoroughly enjoyed the game. That money will literally change the life chances of the children the 800 Orphanage serves”.
