Update: Harrison Gilkes and Club captaincy

Neil Baker provides an update on injuries, including Harrison Gilkes' knee injury, and the Club captaincy for the new season.

03/08/16

As some people are now aware, Harrison Gilkes had a scan yesterday after the injury he suffered at the weekend, and it is with regret that the results show he has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

Obviously this is a big blow to us as a squad, but more so to Harrison, and we will do all we can to help him during this tough time.

The general prognosis is he has to let the swelling subside and build up the muscles around his knee, and he will be operated on in a few weeks. After that, recovery time can be anywhere between 6 and 12 months depending on how quickly he responds to rehab. Supporters will remember Warren Harris had the same injury at the start of pre season two years ago, and was back in training before the end of that season.

Lewis Putman also aggravated a groin injury last night, after passing a fitness test. This could mean he misses the first few weeks of the season, which again is a body blow to us.

Guy Hollis coming off last night was just fatigue, and we hope minor knocks to Sean Fraser and Charlie Moone will be fine.

Lee Barney also had a car accident on his way home from the game last night, and whilst he was not hurt too badly, he may have some whiplash type injuries (the main thing here is he walked away from it with only a sore nose after the deployment of the airbags).

Obviously with the injuries to Harrison and Puts it has given Dobbo (James Dobson) an opportunity, and he signed Southern League forms last night.

In other news, Sean Fraser has been appointed captain for the season, with Mark Nisbet as vice captain. To be honest we were happy with either to take on the mantle, and allowed them both games with the captaincy pre season. However we felt it would be best that they sit down and discuss the situation, and come up with a decision between them, which is something they have done and has resulted in the above decision.
