Last season's promotion was what I joined the club to achieve and having done that it feels right that I can now move on
Dave Woozley
We spoke over the weekend with Dave Woozley who has informed us that he felt the time was right to leave the club.
With the additional travelling involved this season and the challenges in combining this with his shifts at work and a young family he just felt it was too much to take on. Rather than realise this a few months in to the season, and following such a high at the end of last season, Wooz has taken the decision that now is the right time to move on.
This isn't the end of his career and we understand he intends to play locally at Step 5 where there will be far less travelling to do but we will leave that to him and the club in question to make that announcement if that does happen.
We would like to extend our thanks to Wooz who has been a fantastic servant to this club over the past three and a half seasons, making 155 appearances in that time. We will always be grateful for the huge part he played in our promotion winning campaign last season, captaining the side on that fantastic run over the second half of the season. We completely understand and respect the decision he has taken and on behalf of all the players and staff wish him all the very best for the future.
Wooz has asked us to pass on these words:
"Thanks everyone for your support over the last few years, it's been a pleasure representing Slough. Thanks particularly to Steve Easterbrook and Super Kev, two amazing people who have made my time here so enjoyable.
