Preview: Havant & Waterlooville

A look ahead to tonight's big game at Westleigh Park.

13/03/24

A midweek clash awaits Scott Davies’ Slough Town, with a trip to the South Coast to face Havant & Waterlooville, writes Freddie Gatrell.

Since our last meeting, the Hawks have shown a drastic improvement in their form. Their previous manager, Steve King was relieved of his duties three months ago, and since then the Hawks have accumulated seven more victories than their solitary one they arrived at Arbour Park with back in November.

Despite the upturn in fortunes under their new coaching staff, made up of Cliff De Gordon, Ross Betteridge and Richard Pope, the Hawks still sit in a precarious league position coming into the final games of the campaign. After 37 games played this campaign, the Hawks have won eight, drawn five and lost 24 times leaving them in 23rd place in the table and five points adrift of Eastbourne Borough in the place above following last night’s results.

Over their last five games, the Hawks’ form has been inconsistent, with two defeats, a win and two draws. Sitting nine points from safety and in need of the points, the Hawks will surely pose a serious threat to the playoff-chasing Rebels, with every game a must win for both sides.

The key man for tomorrow’s clash for the Hawks will likely be main man, Ryan Seager. A signing made late last year by Steve King, Seager is a prolific goalscorer with National League pedigree, playing regular football last season with Dorking Wanderers after a successful spell with Hungerford Town. Having netted in the Hawks’ previous game at Tonbridge Angels, the 27-year-old will be eager to add to his goal tally and drag his side to National League South safety over the remaining games this season.

Kick off will be at 7.45pm tonight at Westleigh Park. For Rebels unable to make the trip, live updates will be provided on all club social media channels, as well as live radio commentary courtesy of Rebels Radio.
