Jerry Morley, the popular 1950s Slough Town football player, sadly passed away after a short illness on Friday 27 April 2018.

Jerry was born in Cork, Ireland playing his first competitive football for the Irish league side Evergreen, before making his home in Slough where he worked at Ideal Capsules Ltd as a Tool Setter.

After a short period playing for Industrial teams, he joined Slough Centre FC at which time the team won many honours as both winners and runners up of the Berks & Bucks Senior and Benevolent Cup trophies.

In 1955 Jerry was persuaded to join Slough Town. He was a gifted player who was equally effective in any forward position but mainly played running the left wing. Partnering centre-forward Bogdan Jakubiec, they were an effective strike force for Slough Town with a good scoring record between them.

He played four seasons at Slough Town, making over 125 appearances at which time they again enjoyed Berks & Bucks Cup success.

In 1957/58 the Berks & Bucks team won the Southern Counties Amateur Championship for the first time since 1924, beating Suffolk at Portman Road, Ipswich by six goals to one. Jerry Morley was one of the few Slough Town players in a team dominated by Wycombe Wanderers. He was so impressive in the game that he was offered a trial for Ipswich who was then managed by the future England Manager Sir Alf Ramsey.

Jerry received a few offers of turning professional, but decided to stay in Slough among friends and family.

After finishing his football career in 1959, Jerry enjoyed travel and devoted the rest of his life to his beloved wife Margo and family of a son and daughter, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Jerry remained a lover of football all his life and his family still enjoy reading his album of sporting achievements.

He is sadly missed and loved by all his family.
