Looking Ahead: Bracknell Town

Slough make the short trip to Larges Lane on Tuesday evening for a Berks & Bucks Senior Cup Quarter-Final tie.

22/01/18

After the frustrations of Saturday’s game being called off, we set our sights on a Berks & Bucks Senior Cup Quarter-Final tie with Bracknell Town.

Bracknell is a club that Jon and I know very well, having played there for a number of years, and we will look forward to going back for the first time as managers. The place is very different to the one we left, and the transformation of the ground is a credit to their chairman and people within the club.

Before talking about our squad, I would like to give thanks to Bracknell Town for dedicating the game to Super Kev’s memory, and running a collection for the family to help with funeral costs. That is something they didn’t have to do, but with the Slough connection, it is something I know that will be hugely appreciated.

Obviously this will be the first time that we have been able to properly reflect on his sad passing, and we will also have a number of things lined up for our home game against Merthyr Town next Saturday.

Bracknell have been going great guns recently, and whilst challenging for promotion they have also made it to the final 16 of the FA Vase. We are obviously very familiar with the management team and players at Bracknell, and with Jamie McClurg, George Short, Adam Cornell and Ryan Parsons in their side, that is four players that started the Play-off Final win at Kettering and who were absolutely brilliant for us, so a tough night will no doubt be in store.

It will be quite strange going up against these lads, especially George and Clurgy who played under myself and Jon for more than five years, and after this game I would love to see them get promoted and get to the FA Vase Final.

In terms of squad news, George Wells is still recovering from a foot injury sustained at work, and Simon Dunn is still a few weeks away from fitness. Harrison Gilkes will be playing another game for Andover to get more minutes into his legs, unless their game is called off in which case he will form part of our squad.

Ben Harris is cup-tied having played in an earlier round for Ascot United against MK Dons, whilst Gav James will continue with his loan spell at Met Police.

Therefore we will go with the following 15-man squad:

Jack Turner, Sean Fraser, Josh Jackman, Nathan Smart, Alan Inns, Mark Nisbet, Guy Hollis, Matthew Lench, James Dobson, Warren Harris, Lee Togwell, Nathan Webb, Manny Williams, Brad Wadkins and Chris Flood.
