Chairman’s Look Ahead

An update from Steve Easterbrook ahead of the start of the new season.

11/08/17

Just a few brief words before the new season starts.

Firstly, a big welcome to all the new season ticket holders and welcome back to everyone who has renewed again for the forthcoming season. Pre-season was a great success and fittingly included a fantastic day when we welcomed Premiership club West Bromwich Albion for Super Kev’s testimonial – Oh, and of course we won 2-1! There’s a real buzz around at the moment and I know expectations are running high with Jon and Neil having assembled such an exciting squad.

The Club is establishing itself in its new home but like all new homes there remain a few snagging issues - I am confident however, that these will be rectified shortly - furthermore we will also be looking to personalise things a bit more, particularly on match days. We bid farewell to Donald and the Burger van and welcome new in-house caterers, The Canape Box (thecanapebox.co.uk), who now offer enhanced catering facilities and who will also be managing the bar for the season ahead.

We will be recommencing the filming of all home games, so everyone can relive those great (or best forgotten) moments and Rebels Radio will be continuing to broadcast games live - so for those who can’t make the game you will still be able to pace up and down the carpet and follow the action!

We would like to thank St Joseph’s School for their continued support and assistance with parking on match days and of course a big thank you to all fans, supporters, committee members, The Supporters Trust and last, but not least the trusty volunteers. Countless of us make many sacrifices for the club and I would like to personally thank everyone of you for giving up so much of your time – this Club would never have made this long journey from almost fading away over 10 years ago to being back where it belongs today.

On a personal level, and I thought I would mention this now, I will be standing down as Chairman in the very near future. This has been something I have been thinking about for quite a while and whilst there is never a good time, after 10 years it feels about right – I also owe it to my wife (who has always supported me, through thick and thin) and my family (particularly my first grandson!). I don’t want anyone to panic, everything is in place for the forthcoming season and like you, I have high hopes and it's one I am very much looking forward to!

Always a Rebel!
