Despite the cold weather, all three teams saw some action this weekend.
U11s – report from Jermaine
The U11s played the best 30 minutes of football we have played all season in the second half this week. We were really disappointed in the first half after the performance we put in the week before. If we played like we did in the last 30 minutes, we would have won.
The highlight of the first half was the performance of Henry, he was like a man possessed at left centre back. I felt sorry for the opposition who stopped attacking down Henry's side of the pitch. He showed strength, composure and speed in his defending. Everything we said to Henry and he did in training he took into the game.
Louie, George, Callum and Ruben carried on their good form from the last few weeks in the first half. But we can't play with only five players and we can't keep using the excuse of the other team being a foot taller than us.
We had a great team talk with the kids putting their opinions on what wasn't working and what we could do to fix it. After few tactical tweaks the performance was night and day to the first half. The coaches were amazed at the character the kids showed. They really grew up in front of our eyes. They all looked a foot taller in the second half. The opposition were hanging on and couldn't cope with us being in their face for 30 minutes.
I want to make a few comments on each of the lads’ performance in the second half because we were that impressed and if we keep playing like that we will have outstanding second half to the season.
Freddie and his wonderful right foot put it all together today, made really good passes from goal kicks, free kicks and took his goal from the tight angle so well.
Charlie we know is a talented kid but today he mixed it with hard work, alertness and offered his teammates a good out ball in the second half. He was so unlucky not to make it 2-2 with his turn and shot that hit the outside of the near post from Callum's cross.
Callum showed ability, heart and vision. He did some lovely stuff on the ball and showed a lot of aggression off the ball. Louie played like he was 6ft tall, covered every blade of grass, showed poise on the ball and is improving every week. Amar is a slick, tidy footballer and matched it with hard work and great positioning today.
Phil has a very consistent game with his really good left foot but today showed great tenacity I didn't think he had in him. Jamie has a really high football IQ, always talks really well on the pitch but to see him put that huge kid double his size in his pocket was fun to watch. Henry, like I said earlier took his game to a level that was so impressive.
Jay who makes the game look really easy and cool, showed an aggressive streak that helped to force their attack to crumble. Ruben shocks us every week and now it's become normal for him to play his heart out. His tackling and throw-ins help us to keep them pinned in their own half.
George was outstanding again and always takes on everything we work on in training. His anticipation coming off his line to clear the ball is the best I have ever seen in a kid his age.
U12s – report from Kay Lathey
The U12s played league leaders Burnham Junior Yellows at Farnham Park on Sunday lunchtime.
It was a fantastic team performance from the keeper right through to the strikers. A brace apiece for Malachi McDonald and Steven Elmer and one from Owen McCarthy saw the final score reach 5-1.
It was hard to pick a man of the match from the many contenders. The lads have come on in leaps and bounds this season and have grown in confidence as the wins have come.
The boys sit second in the league with three games in hand, four points off the top.
U14s – report from Dave King
The U14s had a week off from league action so played Burnham Yellows in a friendly at Farnham Park.
Despite going a goal down to an error by the stand in keeper, the boys hit back straight away with a superb goal from man of the match Ted Salt. Another top class finish from Philbert Arko made it 2-1 at half time.
In the second half Slough pushed on and added another five goals through Ben Hall, Francis Ketter and Philbert Arko.
Back to League action next week with hopefully another key player back from injury.
